In my North Shore violin lessons, I focus on maximizing the whole violinist — shaping each student's technique, musicality, and personal expression through strategic, intentional teaching. Experience has shown me that kids thrive most when they feel confident in themselves, their skills, and their capacity to handle challenges.

Through mentorship, I focus on more than just what students play — I help them build a positive relationship with learning and with their sense of self. I blend clear structure with a supportive space where students feel understood, encouraged, and heard, and to me that's what teaching is all about. Students leave each lesson with greater skills, more trust in themselves, and a renewed excitement for learning!

There is NO "one size fits all" in violin instruction!

How they
learn

In violin lessons for all levels, students often gravitate towards doing what is "easy" — meaning that immediate gratification can overshadow discipline. But real improvement requires confronting challenges, and by definition, challenges are not “easy!”

As a teacher, I must frequently think as a detective, working to uncover what motivates and what frustrates. Looking out for mindsets like perfectionism and self-doubt, I reframe "mistakes" as opportunities for learning, and reinforce healthy attitudes by setting the expectation:

“Don’t make it perfect; make it better than it was before.”

How they
practice

Effective performance begins with effective practice! One of my greatest responsibilities as a teacher is to share the "art of practicing"  the strategies necessary for students to become their own best problem-solvers. By learning to accurately diagnose problems and apply efficient solutions to address them, students can overcome challenges before getting discouraged.

 Students generally

ENJOY PRACTICING

as long as practicing leads to progress,

because it feels good to be successful!

My North Shore violin lessons serve as a forum where students are taught to ask questions of me and of themselves —  as part of developing the self-awareness essential to violin mastery and to foundational life skills.
